Initial clean up of public areas is in the hands of subcommittees of the National Hurricane Committee. Different situations call for different responses, and Government has in place plans that come under the leadership of the Department of Environment or the Department of Environmental Health. Large-scale clean ups may call for assistance from the private sector or from overseas specialists, as it did in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

Residents are encouraged to get involved in the restoration of their neighborhoods and communities.
