Road Closures and Warnings of Cordons
Published 20th October, 6:30pm
Due to the on-going issues of flooding and wave action it has been necessary to continue road cordons to protect public safety and the security of premises.
The RCIPS want to ensure the community that there will be a strong Police presence on the streets to ensure the safety of the public and the protection of property during this severe weather warning. The public's safety is of the utmost importance to the RCIPS.
The RCIPS are stressing to the public to use common sense and obey the warnings and directions given by officers. Stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
Cordons will be in force and the public will be dealt with by the Police if they fail to obey these cordons.
Officer's safety is put at risk by people 'sightseeing' and this in turn uses Police resources that could be used elsewhere.
Members of the public are asked to stay out of the water at this time.
The public are advised that the following road closures have been put into effect to ensure the public's safety.
North Church Street, South Church Street, Harbour Drive, Mary Street and Bodden's Road.
The public are advised to use an alternative route at this time and if possible do not travel anywhere near these areas at all.
Some of these areas have reported 12" of water with asphalt and rocks on the road. There is also a risk of some wave action later this evening.
Other diversions in place throughout the island are on the West Bay Road between Indies Suites and Governor's Harbour. This diversion must remain in place in order to allow Public Works to remove debris from the road.
The road from Bodden Town to George Town is closed to all members of the public at this time. Emergency services personnel will only be allowed through.
Special Constables who are available for duty are asked to contact their local Police Station.
Please follow these guidelines and have a safe evening.
