Season Not Over

While some international media have been so bold as to call the 2006 Hurricane Season wimpy, the Cayman Islands' National Hurricane Committee warns that we still have over a month to go and should all continue to maintain a state of preparedness - which means replenishing any food items from your hurricane supplies you may have used up in the last couple of months!
To further strengthen its message of preparedness, NHC Chairman Mr. Donovan Ebanks, and Chair of the NHC's Joint Communication Service (JCS) Mrs. Angela Martins presented copies of the new weather information piece for the tourism industry specially designed by the JCS, at the request of the NHC, to the Hon. Minister of Tourism Mr. Charles Clifford and representatives from the tourism industry.
"This piece will be an incredibly useful tool in keeping our guests informed if inclement weather is approaching," commented Mr. Ebanks. "At the start of the 2006 hurricane season I challenged the JCS to develop FAQs for visitors which would give then accurate information on what a tropical storm or hurricane is and how the Cayman Islands prepare for such an encounter. The DOT took the lead on this project and I am extremely pleased with the result, and I must add that I really hope we don't have to use it this year," he concluded.
Brochures have been distributed to all licensed accommodations and will be distributed to guests on an 'as need basis'. To receive further information on these brochures, please email Ms Kristi Anderson.
