Cayman's Chief Meteorologist John Tibbetts says: "This weak depression is no threat to the Cayman Islands at this time. The weather service will continue to monitor it and we've so advised the chairman of the National Hurricane Committee."

At 4pm local time, the center of newly formed tropical depression six was located near latitude 11.8N, longitude 58.6W or about 180 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands.

The depression will probably strengthen and become a tropical storm by tomorrow (Saturday, 1 September). A strong ridge to the north is expected to keep the storm on a west to west-northwest track.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35mph with higher gusts. The estimated minimum central pressure from surface observations and an air force reserve hurricane hunter is 1008mb, 29.77 inches.

The depression is moving west near 16mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. The depression will pass through the Windwards overnight; total rain accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are possible for the Netherlands Antilles and coastal Venezuela.
