Noel Unlikely to Affect Cayman

Published 28th October, 5:53pm

Issued Sunday, 28 October, 5:30 pm: Based on the 4 pm update from the National Hurricane Centre in Miami, Tropical Storm Noel appears unlikely to affect the Cayman Islands. On its current north-northwest track, expected to continue over the next 24 hours, the centre of Noel will move near or over southwestern Haiti tonight.

The local National Weather Service (NWS) has indicated unless there is an unforeseen change in its projected path, this will be its last weather advisory. NWS will continue to monitor the system and residents should, nevertheless, continue to listen to local media.

At 4 pm local time, the centre of Tropical Storm Noel was relocated near latitude 16.8 north and longitude 71.9 west or about 125 miles south-southwest of Port Au Prince Haiti and about 320 miles southeast of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

As it continues its north-northwest path over the next 24 hours, a slight increase in its forward speed (currently at 5 mph), is expected.

The NWS, which has been monitoring the system since it formed in the Caribbean last night (Saturday), is not expected to issue any further advisories, unless there is some unforeseen change in Noel's path.
