TS Fay Warning Continues

Key messages:
- Sister Islands are under a tropical storm WARNING.
- Grand Cayman is under a tropical storm WATCH.
- The Sister Islands may get 1.50 to 2.0 inches of rain from Sunday morning through Monday morning, causing flooding of low-lying areas.
- Seas in the Cayman Islands area will be rough, especially in the Sister Islands.
- TS Fay is 119 miles east to northeast of the Sister Islands. It is moving west to northwest at 13 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
Advice to local population:
- Cayman Islands residents should maintain a state of readiness, and exercise caution.
- All marine interests in the Sister Islands should seek safe harbor on Sunday, and remain there.
- All residents should continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Fay.
Weather details from the National Hurricane Centre, as of 7 a.m. Sunday, 17 August
- In addition to the above information, Tropical Storm Fay was located near 20.0 N 78.0 W, or 160 miles south of Camaguey, Cuba.
- Based on this path, the band of tropical storm-force winds are forecast to pass north of the Cayman Islands. However, satellite pictures show a significant amount of cloudiness and thundershowers south of the center.
- The Cayman Islands can expect cloudy to overcast weather, with occasional showers and some thunder.
- The Cayman Islands can expect fresh to strong northerly winds of 20 to 25 knots today, becoming southerly winds of 15 to 20 knots tonight. The seas will be very rough with wave heights of 6 to 8 feet, especially near the Sister Islands.
