Key messages:
- All warnings and watches are discontinued for the Cayman Islands.
- Showers may be locally heavy leading to flooding of low-lying areas, mainly over the Sister Islands.
- At 4 a.m. Monday, 18 August, TS Fay was 205 miles north to northwest of the Sister Islands. Fay is moving north-northwest near 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph.
- All Cayman Islands residents are reminded that we are in the height of hurricane season, and that they should continue to monitor local media for information from Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) and the Met Office. Basic precautions such as checking roofs; cleaning gutters and downspouts; checking hurricane shutters; securing vital documents; writing your family disaster plan; planning for pets should be in place NOW. Do not wait until there is a weather threat.
Advice to local population:
- Residents in low-lying areas, mainly in the Sister Islands, should exercise caution.
- All marine interests should exercise caution over open waters.
Weather details from the National Hurricane Centre, as of 4 a.m. Monday, 18 August:
- The Sister Islands can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with scattered showers and some thunder.
- Grand Cayman can expect partly cloudy skies, with a few showers and some thunder.
- South to southwest winds of 10 to 15 knots over the Sister Islands, and 5 to 10 knots over Grand Cayman, are expected to persist during the next 24 hours. Higher gusts are likely during squally conditions in and around heavy showers. Wave heights of 4 to 6 feet are expected, especially near the Sister Islands as well as in and around heavy showers.
