Hurricane Ike Update: 7:00am Tuesday, 9 September 2008

NB. This is the final local update re Hurricane Ike-all watches and warnings for the Cayman Islands are discontinued
Key messages
- The All Clear for the Cayman Islands was issued as of 7:00 this morning. All watches and warnings for Cayman are discontinued.
- Schools in the Sister Islands will resume as normal today.
- Hurricane Ike is now northwest of the Cayman area and continues to move away. However, our area will continue to experience outer rain bands from the storm. These will be covered by the local public forecast. This is the last HMCI update on the system.
- The National Hurricane Centre is issuing advisories on Hurricane Ike, which at 4:00am was located near 22.0 N 82.1 W or 193 miles northwest of Grand Cayman, and 85 miles south-southeast of Havana, Cuba. Ike is moving west near 13 mph with maximum sustained winds near 80 mph.
