CYB & LC: Advisory Compilation
CAL Flights
Cayman Airways is no longer operating special fare flights to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. However, essential personnel travelling to and from these islands should contact HMCI at 244-3147 for flight arrangements.
Relief Supplies for LC
Two volunteer teams are distributing individual packages of special needs relief supplies to residents on Little Cayman today and tomorrow. The packages were put together after receiving specific requests from residents. In addition, the Brac Command Centre is in daily contact with Little Cayman District Administrator Larry Foster, regarding required assistance and sourcing supplies.
Jamaican Consulate
Mrs Elaine Harris, Honorary Vice-Consul in the Jamaican Consulate on Grand Cayman, travelled to Cayman Brac today. She visited the Aston Rutty shelter and spoke to Jamaican nationals on the island to get first hand assessments on the challenges that they are facing.
Food Safety
The Department of Environmental Health on Cayman Brac reminds the public to take care when recovering or purchasing stored canned food. Do not use or buy canned foods if they are:
- bulging at the sides or tops or bottoms of the cans
- extensively dented, especially the rims and seams
- badly rusted
- leaking.
Also, cans which were exposed to flooding at ground level should be disposed of. However, those in good order that were exposed only to rain water may be used or purchased, but must be cleaned with disinfectant before being opened.
Safe Fibreglass Handling
Residents taking part in cleaning up should not handle fibreglass insulation without proper protection. Use face masks or respirators, and wear long-sleeved tops or shirts and gloves.
Updated Needs List
The Brac Command Centre is making a public appeal for specific items needed by Cayman Brac and Little Cayman residents:
- Battery-operated fans
- Air mattresses with pumps
- Large plastic storage containers (e.g. Rubbermaid)
- Heavy duty, exterior extension cords (50 ft)
- Lanterns
- Mops and brooms
- One and two-burner propane stoves
- Small submersible pumps (for pumping out cisterns)
These can be dropped off at the Red Cross collection point in Grand Cayman.
