Repairing the Spirit: Six pastors from different churches led a service of thanksgiving and praise at the Kirkconnell Shopping Centre parking lot this morning (Sunday).
Giving thanks for sparing lives on both Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, speakers noted that the 1932 hurricane had devastated the Brac on the same date as Paloma. They recalled that a religious revival had followed the '32 event-and hoped for the same, post-Paloma.
Some 50 residents attended, sitting in cars, on folding chairs or under denuded trees.
Prayers were said for all in the Cayman Islands and thanks given for government's response, as well as for the aid and assistance received from all, especially from the voluntary organisations.
Another joint service will be held in the Watering Place church parking lot at 5:30 this evening and a combined church service will again be held in Kirconnell's parking lot next Sunday at 9am.
Nurturing the Youth: A joint effort by Community Development Officer Annie Rose Scott, the National Youth Commission, and the Ritz-Carlton has resulted in Eight Days of Light. This is a youth programme to be launched at the Brac Youth Development Centre on Student Drive in Creek, tomorrow (17 November).
The Monday to Monday venture will offer organised activities to youth aged 8-19 and will accommodate more than 100 participants. Transport will be provided, with pick up at roadside, starting at 8am. The programme will end at 5pm daily and the youngsters will be dropped off afterwards.
Ten Ritz-Carlton naturalists from the Ambassadors of the Environment Jean-Michel Cousteau Programme will facilitate, along with other Ritz-Carlton personnel, Brac staffers, and other volunteers. Numerous fun and educational activities are planned.
Call Annie Rose Scott at 916-7310 for more information, or call Jenny Manderson at the National Youth Commission, 916-3120, with other offers of aid for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman youth.
Parents should also note that the Daycare Centre will also be open for toddlers.
