The Department of Education Services is pleased to announce that Cayman Brac High School will reopen as promised this week, with Years 11 and 12 reporting to school on Friday and Year 10 following on Monday, November 24th. Work continues on all schools in Cayman Brac and the remaining high school students will be able to return to school as sufficient classrooms are approved for occupancy.
Primary school provision will begin operating some time next week, with the exact date to be announced shortly. This service will initially operate out of West End Primary School. The Ministry has acceded to the request by the Public Works Department to provide the use of Creek Primary School for housing of essential workers as no other housing is available and these workers must be on island to complete urgently needed repairs throughout the island.
Teachers returned to work on Wednesday, November 19th, and are working hard to prepare classrooms and make the necessary modifications to their planning in order to support student learning during the recovery process. The Cayman Brac and Little Cayman Learning Community Leader, Mrs. Tammy Banks-DaCosta, is leading the recovery efforts for the schools under the guidance of the Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Shirley Wahler, and teams from the Department of Education Services have spent considerable time in Cayman Brac assisting with the reopening of schools.
