Brac Recovery Construction Rates

Public Works Dept and Cayman Contractors Association Agree to Standard Construction Rates for Brac Recovery

The Public Works Department (PWD) and the Cayman Contractors Association (CCA) have come to an agreement with regard to Standards Rates that will be charged by CCA Contractors who will assist with the rebuilding efforts in the Brac as a result of Hurricane Paloma.

Although these rates pertain to member-contractors of the CCA, and are geared towards the rebuilding of Government Buildings, homeowners may employ the services of CCA contractors for the same standard cost, according to Mr. Steve Hawley, President of the CCA. Homeowners may also use these standard figures as a guide with respect to utilizing the services of non-CCA contractors. However, it should be noted that although Government recommends that non-CCA contractors follow this rates, they are not in direct order to do so.

According to Mr. Max Jones, Director of Public Works, Government’s group of insurers is already in acceptance of the standard rates for the Brac Recovery. Additionally, the CCA has been in talks with other private sector insurance companies, but says the proposed rates have been met with mixed reactions. Some insurers have stated that they wish to establish their own rates, while others have praised the move by PWD and CCA, saying that it will make their jobs easier while also ensuring that settlements made to their clients will be appropriate.
