Tropical Storm Warning

Date: November 7th, 2009.

Time: 7 AM

The National Hurricane Centre in Miami, Florida is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm IDA, which at 7 a.m. was located near 17.4 N 84.1 W or 220 miles southwest of Grand Cayman. IDA has maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and is moving towards the north at 8 mph.

The Government of the Cayman Islands has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Grand Cayman. Residents should monitor the progress of this storm and take all necessary precautions.

Tropical Storm Ida is forecast to pass within 214 miles west of Grand Cayman this afternoon and across the Yucatan Channel Monday morning. Ida is forecast only slight strengthening during this time.

The Cayman area can expect Cloudy to overcast skies with scattered showers and some thunder. Showers will be locally heavy at times leading to flooding in low lying areas. Residents in low lying areas should take all necessary precautions. Weather models indicate that an additional 2 to 4 inches are likely over the next 24 hours.

Winds over the open seas will be from the east to southeast 15 to 20 knots with higher gusts in squally conditions potentially reaching tropical storm force.

Marine conditions will be rough with wave heights 5 to 7 feet. All crafts should seek safe harbor and remain there until further notice.
