4.6 Magnitude Tremor

HMCI can confirm that a small tremor was detected on the local seismographs at 11.05 am on March 1, 2010

Some residents felt the tremor and evacuated buildings.

The event was subsequently posted on the U.S.Geological Survey (USGS) website with the following information:

Magnitude: 4.6 Mb (A light earthquake)

Event Date & Time: 2010/03/01 11:05:38.200 GMT-05:00

Coordinates: 18.921 N, 81.461 W

18 deg 55.28 min N, 81 deg 27.66 min W

Depth: 9.8 km (6.1 miles)

27 miles (43 km) S of GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands

28 miles (45 km) SSW of Bodden Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

32 miles (51 km) S of West Bay, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
