New Signs for Emergency Shelters

Directional signage is being installed to make it easier for residents and visitors to find the emergency shelters. HMCI Director, McCleary Frederick explained that, “a total of 40 of the emergency shelter signs will be appearing in various locations across all three Islands, and it is hoped that they will all be installed by the start of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season on June 1st.” The National Roads Authority is assisting with project.
In past events, the Department of Children and Services has received numerous calls from residents seeking directions to the shelters and the flood of calls usually occurs during the “Watch’ and ‘Warning’ phase of an approaching hurricane.
