Tropical Wave Forms in the Northwest Caribbean

SYNOPSIS

Extensive cloudiness, thundershowers and squally conditions will continue to spread across the Cayman area during the next 24 hours in association with a strong tropical wave over the northwest Caribbean. This is wave moving west to northwest at 10 to 15 knots.

THE FORECAST FOR THE CAYMAN ISLANDS

Tonight: Cloudy to overcast skies with widely scattered showers and some thunder. Periods of heavy squalls are expected through tonight. (Chance of rain 60%). Temperatures will fall to the mid 70’s. Winds are expected to be east to southeast 20 to 25 knots with higher gusts especially in and around heavy squalls. Seas are expected to be rough with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet especially along the east and south coasts. A small warning is in effect through tonight.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a few showers and possible thunder over Grand Cayman during the morning with a decrease in cloudiness and showers by afternoon. (Chance of rain 40%) Partly cloudy skies with isolated showers and possible thunder are expected over the Sister Islands. Temperatures will rise to the upper 80’s. Winds are expected to be east to southeast 15 to 20 knots through tomorrow morning becoming 10 to 15 knots thereafter. Seas are expected to be moderate to rough with wave heights 4 to 6 feet. Small crafts should exercise caution over open waters.
