Tropical Storm Warning

TD 16 Forms NW of the Cayman Islands

At 10:00 a.m. local time the National Hurricane Center started issuing bulletins on TD No. 16 which is located at 20.6N 82.5W or about 116 miles NW of Grand Cayman. The depression is moving towards the NNE at 10 mph with maximum sustained Winds of 35 mph.

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS IS NOW UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WARNING.

The Cayman area can expect overcast rainy weather with periods of heavy torrential rainfall. Rainfall models predictions indicate that another 3 to 4 inches are likely during the next 24 hours. Flooding of low lying areas is expected during the next 24 hours and residents should take necessary precautions.

Strong southwesterly winds and rough seas are expected to continue over our area especially along the south and west coast. Higher gusts up to tropical storm force are expected in squally conditions in and around heavy showers. All marine crafts should seek safe habour and remain there until further notice.

The CI National Weather Service will continue to monitor the progress of this system. All residents are urged to stay tuned to the local media for further updates.
